Dr. Church attended The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she graduated with honors and earned her bachelor of science degree in biology. Prior to veterinary school, she worked in a small animal clinic and volunteered at The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher as well as the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. Melanie received her doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University. She then completed a private practice internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta. Dr. Church joined the residency program at Eye Care for Animals in 2009.
