Dr. Atkins received a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, spending her last semester aboard Voyager, a ship for the Semester at Sea program which circumnavigates the globe to allow firsthand experience of cultural and humanitarian issues. She then received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Atkins completed a private practice internship in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego, California. Dr. Atkins joined the Eye Care for Animals residency program in 2011.
Dr. Church attended The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she graduated with honors and earned her bachelor of science degree in biology. Prior to veterinary school, she worked in a small animal clinic and volunteered at The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher as well as the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. Melanie received her doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University. She then completed a private practice internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta. Dr. Church joined the residency program at Eye Care for Animals in 2009.
Dr. Dees received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 2006 and a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, both at
Dr. Fritz received his bachelor of science degree in Animal Science and Biology from the University of Kentucky. He then received his doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. Afterwards, he completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Fritz joined the residency program at Eye Care for Animals in 2010.
Dr. Gunderson received a bachelor of science degree in biology in 2001 and a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006, both at the University of Saskatchewan. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, also at the University of Saskatchewan. After, she spent a year in small animal general practice in Edmonton, Alberta for one year. She then completed an ophthalmology clerkship with Eye Care for Animals in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Gunderson joined the residency program at Eye Care for Animals in 2009.
