Douglas Esson, BVSc, MRCVS, DVM, DACVO

Dr. Esson obtained his BVSc from the University of Pretoria, his CertVOphthal from the Royal Veterinary College in London, completed an ophthalmic surgical internship with SAMG in Sacramento and undertook a two-year glaucoma/research fellowship with the department of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida, before completing his residency with ECFA in southern California.

Dr. Esson is a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. His interests include glaucoma, high-risk cataract surgery, ophthalmic lasers and clinical research. Dr. Esson’s scientific manuscripts have been published in peer-reviewed journals including Veterinary Ophthalmology, the Journal of Glaucoma, Science and Investigative Ophthalmology, Visual Science & the Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine. He has authored texts including sections in “Veterinary Ophthalmology”, “Glaucoma” & “Veterinary Ophthalmic Surgery” and his own “Clinical Atlas of Canine & Feline Ophthalmic Disease”.

Dr. Esson has also presented his research & clinical studies at ACVO, WSAVA, ARVO and AAO. His is a consultant ophthalmologist with the Comparative Ophthalmic Research Laboratories (CORL) of Wisconsin & New World Medical (California) and a member of the University of Florida’s Center for Vision Research. He is also an associate member of the American Glaucoma Society (AGS).

Dr. Esson’s volunteer work with wildlife has appeared in numerous publications and syndicated television shows and he is a regularly invited national & international speaker.
