The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists advances the quality of medicine through certification of veterinarians who demonstrate excellence in veterinary ophthalmology. The ACVO is an approved veterinary specialty organization of the American Board of Veterinary Specialties, and is recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
American Association of Veterinary Radiologists
The AAVR was founded by a group of veterinary radiologists who were concerned about the level of imaging education being offered to veterinarians and veterinary technicians. In the past, imaging education was largely provided to the veterinary community in an effort to sell imaging equipment. These, albeit well meaning, attempts at imaging education fell short of the mark resulting in missed diagnoses, inappropriate patient care, and unnecessary expenses to the pet owner.

OFA Eye Ceterification Registry
The purpose of the OFA Eye Certification Registry (ECR) is to provide breeders with information regarding canine eye diseases so that they may make informed breeding decisions in an effort to produce healthier dogs. ECR certifications will be performed by board certified (ACVO) veterinary ophthalmologists. Regardless of whether owners submit their ECR exam forms to the OFA for “certification,” all ECR exam data is collected for aggregate statistical purposes to provide information on trends in eye disease and breed susceptibility. Clinicians and students of ophthalmology as well as interested breed clubs and individual breeders and owners of specific breeds will find this useful.
